Donghun was born in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. He was raised in a musical family with his mother winning the grand prize on a program called 'Dojeon Jubu Gayo Star' which inspired him to pursue a career in music.

Donghun has already been to the Army to fullfil his mandatory duty, before leaving he made it into the Top 10 in Superstar K5 during University.

Before debuting with his current group, A.C.E Donghun was in a group called Plan B

On March 23, 2017 he participated in 'I Can See Your Voice' and won his round

It was announced on August 13, 2023 that Lee Dong Hun would be changing his stage name from "Donghun" to his birthname "Lee Dong Hun"
