Minhyuk graduated in Kwangsung High School and attended Dankook University, he majored in "Musical". He's been active as an underground music artist by the name "Heota" and was featured in Block B's Zico and Park Kyung's songs.

Pre-debut Lee Minhyuk together with fellow members of BtoB, Seo Eunkwang, Lim Hyunsik, Jung Ilhoon, and former BtoB member Lee Minwoo (now ex C-Clown member T.K) acted in a JTBCsit-com as 'Invincible Chungdam No. 5' member before officially debuting as BtoB.

Minhyuk made his debut as a member boy-group BTOB in 2012. The group made their official debut on March 21, 2012 on 'M! Countdown'. 

In 2012, Minhyuk was cast in a variety show, tvN's "The Romantic & Idol 2". He also had multiple appearances since 2013 on "Let's Go! Dream Team Season 2".

In 2014, he received supporting roles in dramas, "A New Leaf" and the Idol Special of "Love & War 2". Following his acting career, he joined the casts of "Sweet, Savage Family" in 2015. He also starred as a lead in the web-drama "Nightmare Teacher".

Minhyuk returned under the name "Heota" as he featured as a rapper in Postmen's "I'm OK" that was released on July 14, 2015.

Minhyuk is also known as one of the best idol-athletes in the industry as his impressive skills when it comes to sports are acknowledged on 'Idol Star Athletics Championships' in which idols compete in different fields of sport. He was crowned as the MVP of the 2014 Idol Star Athletics Championships in which their group, team B won and Minhyuk was awarded with 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal.

On August 10, 2017 Minhyuk made his solo debut through the "Piece of BtoB" project. The song he released is a self composed R&B Hip Hop type called "Purple Rain". 

On September 1, 2018 it was announced that Minhyuk would be fulling his mandatory military service through the conscripted policeman service.

On October 27, 2020, Cube announced that the currently active members of BtoB have formed a unit called BtoB 4U consisting Eunkwang, Minhyuk, Changsub and Peniel. The unit debuted on November 16, 2020 with their first mini-album, Inside and title track "Show Your Love".

On October 18, 2023 it was announced that BTOB would be separating from Cube Entertainment, it was also said that the group would be staying together
