Son Hyunwoo (Hangul: 손현우), better known as Shownu, was born in Seoul, South Korea. He is the leader, main dancer, and lead vocalist of South Korean hip hop boy group, Monsta X.

Every boy band has a frontman and for Monsta X, Shownu is that man. He is the leader and of course a vocalist. He was born Sohn Hyun-woo, in Changdong, Donbonggu, Seoul, South Korea.

Shownu is the only child of his parents. Before he began singing with the Monsta X, he was a JYP Entertainment's trainee with GOT7. He still remains friends with GOT7. Having been a backup dancer, Shownu is responsible for choreographing many of Monsta X's dance.

Prior to his debut with Monsta X, Shownu was part of a project group called Nu Boyz (along with #GUN, Shownu and Wonho) formed under Starship Entertainment in August 2014. The quartet uploaded multiple mixtapes to their company's YouTube channel and performed at the opening show of Starship X concert in December 2014.

In December 2014, Starship Entertainment and Mnet launched a competition program called No.Mercy and Shownu was selected along with six other participants were determined as part of Starship Entertainment's new boy group Monsta X on the last episode of the show.

Shownu debuted as the leader and main dancer of Monsta X on May 14, 2015 with the EP Trespass.

In 2020, prior to the release of Monsta X's eighth EP Fantasia X, Shownu injured his back, and the group delayed their comeback by two weeks to allow Shownu time to heal properly from his injury. Prior to Monsta X's live-streamed concert "Live From Seoul with Luv", scheduled for July 25, Shownu had to undergo emergency left eye retinal detachment surgery, and so the concert was postponed to August 8, to give him time to recover from surgery.

Shownu enlisted for his mandatory military service on July 22, 2021. He will serve as public service worker due to previous surgery for left eye retinal detachment.
